Research interests : My main interests are in social media anlaysis; sentiment analysis and opinion mining; business intelligence and data mining; text mining; machine learning; and bioinformatics.
Some of my interested research topics include:

Opinion mining in market intelligence. Application of machine learning techniques to find customers' sentiments and opinions from the Web on certain products or services.

Biomedical literature mining. Knowledge acquisition from biomedical literature. In particular, investigation of statistical models for biomedical events extraction from textural data.

Knowledge engineering. Automatic construction and reasoning of Ontologies as knowledge representations from the Web.

Business intelligence and data mining. Investigation of data mining techniques such as classification, clustering, regression, association rule mining, etc., on business problems.
Research Projects:

ViolenceDET (2012 -- 2013). A project funded by the EPSRC and DSTL aims to automatically detect trends of violence radicalization and extremism from social media.

ROBUST (2010 -- 2013). The EU project, Risk and Opportunity management of huge-scale BUSiness communiTy cooperation (ROBUST), aims to develop a highly scalable platform enabling trustworthy and timely information services in an ecosystem of online business communities.

Learning from unaligned annotations for information extraction (2012 -- 2014). A project funded by the Natural Science Foundation of China in collaboration with Southeast University to investigate semi-supervised learning methods for open information extraction.

Seizing the predictive power of online communities (Aug 2011). A one-month project funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering to visit the Chinese University of Hong Kong in Investigation of predictive modeling in social media.
