Paul
Alexander is the IT & Systems Manager for the Knowledge Media Institute
(KMi), located at The Open University, Milton Keynes in the United Kingdom.
Paul started his computing career at Cranfield University, Bedfordshire
in the UK. He worked for 8 months as a UNIX / Windows Computer Operator,
in the University's Computer Center. Paul then moved to the Open University,
as an IT Support Assistant in the Academic Computing Service. He spent
just over a year dealing with Windows based end-user queries.
His next move was to KMi, where he took a post as an IT / Web Administrator.
This gave Paul the responsibility of overseeing IT support of KMi's staff,
and working as KMi web master. The web-based side of the job involved
maintaining KMi's web presence, and implementation of other project sub-sites.
About a year later, Paul was made responsible for KMi's IT and
Systems strategy, as IT & Systems Manager. This involves the overseeing
of all IT within the KMi lab, including the purchase of new equipment,
security policy, UNIX / NT administration and developing new ways to use
IT to enhance KMi.
